The
fragrant purple and lavender flowers of this perennial are
narrow, lipped tubes grouped into large, crowded heads. Attracts
butterflies and hummingbirds. It's an easy culture and since it
spreads rapidly, pick its spot with care.
Grow specs: 2-3 feet. Tolerant of poor dry
soils. Luxuriant in good soils. Full sun.
In tea, the leaf is used to treat many ailments, including
colic, flatulence, colds, fevers, stomachaches, nosebleeds, insomnia,
heart trouble, worms and measles. The poulticed leaves are applied
for headaches.
