Aromatic perennial with a strong, minty, anise-like scent, this 2-3 ft. tall East Asian native produces thick spikes of blue-purple flowers from August-November.

Direct-seed in spring in sandy, moist, well-drained loam. Ordinary loam soil. Full sun. Pinch back tops and thin to 18". Harvest herb in late summer or fall when flowers appear. Shade dry.

The tea is traditionally used in Chinese herbal medicine to strengthen the stomach, helping with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and sluggish energy.
